Article in the FT: “Ask new commissioners some tough questions” – 1 October 2014

Corporate governance is not about compliance. It is about the composition and quality of boards, and how this leads to the right decisions being made which ensure that companies across the continent are healthy, competitive and ethical. When the European Parliament interviews the new commissioners next week we urge them to pose some tough questions. Why isn’t corporate governance part of the internal market and enterprise brief, its natural home? Why has it been given to the Justice Commissioner, with the resulting risk that there is a narrow focus on board diversity? And why is there not a single mention of governance in the President’s Mission Letter to the incoming commissioner?
